  • From October 4, 2008 and forward, previous timely filling rules will be in effect for all dates of service.

Overview

Texas Children’s Health Plan (TCHP) was founded in 1996 by Texas Children’s Hospital in response to the changing managed care environment faced by the pediatric physician and provider community. TCHP is licensed as an HMO within the State of Texas and was the first pediatric health plan in the nation. When initially founded, Texas Children’s Health Plan accepted global risk from other HMOs for pediatric populations.

As the managed care market in Houston has evolved, so has Texas Children’s Health Plan. Today, Texas Children’s Health Plan functions as an administrator for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and STAR Medicaid Managed Care.

Texas Children’s Health Plan is dedicated to meeting the health care needs of the pediatric population for all three products; however, for the STAR product, TCHP also administers benefits for the adult and pregnant women population.
